Julian Helisek's practice focuses principally on general commercial litigation matters.  He represents plaintiffs and defendants in business disputes from inception through trial and appeal, and has appeared in numerous state and federal courts.  Mr. Helisek has handled matters involving breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, indemnification, tortious interference, and theft of trade secrets.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Helisek was an associate in the New York office of Ropes & Gray, an international law firm, where he represented financial services companies, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and real estate and private equity firms in complex commercial litigation.  Earlier in his career, Mr. Helisek served as an Attorney Fellow at Public Citizen Litigation Group in Washington, DC, where he handled consumer class actions and matters involving FOIA, grand jury secrecy, the Federal Arbitration Act, and the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.

Some highlights of Mr. Helisek's experience to date include:

  • Represented private equity investor in a derivative suit in New York state court for breach of fiduciary duty
  • Represented pharmaceutical manufacturer in litigation against FDA in federal court in New York, challenging on First Amendment and other grounds regulations governing pharmaceutical manufacturers’ truthful, non-misleading speech
  • Represented broker-dealer in New Jersey state court case alleging tortious interference with prospective advantage
  • Represented broker-dealer in Delaware Chancery court case involving claims for indemnification, breach of contract, and breach of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing
  • Represented real estate development firm in contract disputes in federal courts in New York and Ohio
  • Represented system of hospitals and other health care facilities in breach-of-contract suit in New York state court
  • Represented material science company in international arbitration involving alleged theft of trade secrets 
  • Represented insurance company in professional liability coverage dispute concerning email check fraud scam
  • Represented directors of private equity firm portfolio company in connection with proceedings in bankruptcy court in the Southern District of Florida
